The last major survey on housing quality, carried out in 2005[1], showed that Slovenia is bringing up the rear where European housing standards are concerned. An average dwelling in Slovenia has an area of 78.6 m²,[2] which puts it in last place. Even today, 56.4 % of residential buildings have only one to four upper floors, and only 12.6% have more than five floors. This is reflected in the structure of our towns, and the trend of growing sub-urbanisation implies their further spreading.
